Most violent gigs you've been to

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-34184563

I stumbled on this article from the BBC news site and it got me thinking about dodgy gigs I went to back in the 70s/80s. I remember seeing the Buzzcocks at Woolwich Poly in early 78 when a load of NF skins turned up and there was mayhem all night. Also saw the Slits in Oxford and me and my brother ended up rucking with about 10 local idiots who didn't fare too well ! I bet some of you lot have some "interesting" tales to tell so let's hear them.

Probably Run DMC supported by the Beast Boys in '87 Brixton Academy. More trouble outside and me girlfriend had her bag stolen inside. I remember these massive like Truck Driver types with long beards having it with some local hoodies.

Always wondered how Clare Grogan of Altered Images got that scar across her face?

Apparently she got it as a 17 year old after a Secret Affair gig. Got jumped by a gang of skins and slashed with a stanley knife as they assumed she was a mod.

I recall going to Brighton for the weekend in 78 we won 1-2. On the Friday night before the game Sham 69 were playing at one of the clubs on the seafront and we went down to see if we could get in. No chance, the place was rocking with West Ham spilling out onto the streets as was most of the the town. There were fights going on all over the place and I thought Brighton was a quiet seaside resort, seaside resorts and violence seemed the order of the day in 60s and 70s.

Sham 69 at Rafters Manchester 1978.

Trouble was nothing to do with Sham. The support was a band from Liverpool called The Destroyers. They had about 20 lads with them all robed out in Clockwork Orange gear.

Ten seconds into their first song the lead singer gets a glass launched right into his ear. The Droogs all pile into the Manc crowd and it was fucking carnage.

Rafters was a small narrow club and there was literally nowhere to hide. I was only 15 cowering under a table.

Went on for about 5 minutes proper wild west stuff, then plod turned up with dogs adding to the chaos.

Sham turned up late as they'd been playing live on the local What's on programme presented by Tony Wilson and played an absolute stormer.

Happy days!

Nice '85. That's one I can use later on and completely fuck it up by not remembering bits of it etc

tunwhu. I once entered 10 puns into a national pun competition in the hope that one would win...

Unfortunately for me, no pun in ten did.

Adam & The Ants at The Electric Ballroom in 1979, full of cunty wee skins ( he was still in his Nazi phase), fights breaking out all over.
We stood at the bar drinking snakebites & snorting sulphate, telling the skins to fuck off .
Amused when he emerged about a year later as a teen friendly pop star.

I was at that gig and if I remember correctly the "bottles" were actually collection containers for money which was fine when they lobbed 'em around empty but as they filled up with coins they became heavyweight missiles and caused a lot of problems

The worst one I saw was The WHO at The Oval Cricket Ground early 70's

People were throwing bottles into the air and landing on heads.
One girl got her face slashed wide open, blood everywhere. Violent times for music were the 70's
